Cadets are teenagers who take part in activities at a Cadet Unit or detachment, within their local community. These activities are designed to help them to become more self-confident, to develop their leadership skills to improve their physical fitness and communication skills, and to teach self-discipline through challenging training, and to foster community awareness and respect for others.
For the Army Cadets Your son/daughter can join when they are in year 8 at school and can remain until they are 18 years and nine months. There is even an opportunity to become an Adult Instructor at a later date.

The Cadets offers friendship, challenges but most of all fun and adventure. It’s an opportunity to expand horizons, contribute to the community and make friends for life. You will experience activities such as ceremonial drill, first aid, sports and local events that support your community. Occasional weekend activities such as camping, adventure training and marksmanship as well as making new friends is available.
Cadets meet for one or two evenings a week and some weekends throughout the year, but check with your local Detachment. To get the most out of the activities and experiences Cadets should participate regularly.
Summer camps go all over Britain so the opportunities for travel are numerous, courses offered include leadership, instructional techniques, music, marksmanship, map and compass, camping and adventure activities are to name but a few. You will also get a chance to bond with others of similar age and interests and make new friends and have fun!
The Cadets has a zero tolerance towards anything that might cause potential harm, hazard or risk to your child. This means that the safety and well-being of young people when in our care comes above everything else. This zero tolerance policy also extends to drugs and alcohol. Your child will be fully insured by the Ministry of Defence who could receive and process claims where appropriate.
