GODALMING TOWN HOSTS SURREY’S CADET 150 CELEBRATIONS
With 2010 marking the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Cadet Force Movement – ‘Cadet 150’ – Cadets from across Surrey will be celebrating throughout the year with different activities and events to mark the milestone.
To coincide with Armed Forces Day, the County’s main event is a Tri-Service Cadet parade taking place in Godalming on Saturday 26 June which will see around 300 Cadets from the Sea Cadet Corps, the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps, including a Cadet Band, parading through Godalming. In addition, a Canoe Race from Guildford to Godalming on the River Wey will take place between the Sea Cadets and the Army Cadets involving 48 competitors. Other activities will include a military display, a national fundraising prize presentation and a ceremonial tree planting to mark the anniversary. Local dignitaries will include the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey, Mrs Sarah Goad JP and the Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Mrs Carole Cockburn.

Timings:
1210hrs Cadets Step Off and Parade from Church Street through the High Street, Bridge Street and The Burys
1220hrs Cadet formation salutes the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey at the dais at Crown Court
1245hrs Cadets form up at The Burys Field, post parade, a Review by the Lord Lieutenant
1415hrs Mayor of Waverley, Councillor Mrs Carole Cockburn presents prizes to the winning Canoe Race teams
To mark the celebrations, a special message was recently received from HRH Prince Philip who is Colonel in Chief of the Army Cadet Force, which read:
'The formation of the Army Cadet Force 150 years ago turned out to be an event of national significance. Apart from becoming a highly successful voluntary youth organisation, the ACF has given unstinting support to the Army in times of national emergencies as well as during those quieter times when the Armed Forces have been less in the public eye.’
I am sure that the celebrations in Godalming on Armed Forces Day 2010, will be a great success, and I congratulate everyone who has had a hand in organising the event, and everyone who is taking part.’
Members of the public are invited to come and support their local Cadets and help celebrate 150 years of the Cadet Movement.
